SATA Hard Drive with P5K Motherboard

    Hello,
    I have a P5K motherboard with a 200 IDE hard drive. 9 months ago I bought a
Samsung SATA hard disk. I can detect to install stuff. OK. And then boom. A few clicks later it makes the soul. I relocated my 200GB IDE and everything works.
Today I bought the same drive in 400 GB and it is impossible to detect it. The first thing that I find bizarre is that the hard disk after being fed seem either vibrate or make noise .... and after the bios I'm lost .. Thank you for helping me.

Well, previously the Sata hard disk was detected so how can you be so sure that I need to update BIOS for it?

Is it possible that the power supply is not enough for it being only 400 watts?

This is probably not the solution you're looking for, but a solution nonetheless.

Just unplug your other HDDs and force the install to pick up on the lone HD.

I wonder if third-market SATA controller cards could be used as a stopgap measure (until a compatible hard disk could be used with the board)?

Update: for some odd reason, the board seems to prefer Seagates plugged into it.

Here's all the downloads for the P5K including the current BIOS.
