For games e8600 is not recommended for anything on the nvidia site.
As about advice on e8600 you can take xke quietly said with a normal 4ghz and good games.
Obviously you're interested to keep programs optimized for quad but please return to dual 4ever as also with dual can keep the ram at frequencies as high I think.
I will have ProQuad; With the quad are you doing everything really well. 3DMark06 q9550 has mostly to 8.5 thus reaching 400 fsb (we get all) and you'll get up to 3400 that is not really a bad thing. Little heck of the procedure. Last, you should go to quad core.
Being said that began infecting e8600 is running on the new cabinets to 4000
400x10 and run as great with all games tested.
If it is for games you do not have problems, because I do not think that games using 4 core, and with 2 core 4ghz certainly go more than 4 unless core frequency. I am pro Quad-Core ... in the sense that certainly in the future will be used much more than now, and the difference is also seen by the cache.
In the future take a moment of multicore type nehalem. Certainly dont buy with a mutual expectation with a 1-year as "xke will be exploited."
I also feel waiting for nehalem to bring the quad on a mule and take on the big native
I have resisted I have just ordered the q9550 and given away e8600
