question Replacing the DDR Ram with DDR2 Ram?

Hi,
I have 512mb DDR ram chip with my computer Now i want to upgrade my ram & my friend have an extra DDR2 1GB Ram chip with him so m planning to get it for me for some days & see if there any remarkable changes? So the question is can i put this DDR2 Ram in my computer?
Please guys i need your help with this one!

Don't try it. DDR and DDR2 RAM modules have different numbers of
contacts, and the notches are placed differently, so a DDR2 module
simply will not fit in a DDR slot (and if you don't get the point
and keep trying and trying, you'll eventually break something!).

DDR2 stick wouldn't fit in a DDR1 slot. The simple answer to your question is no, you cannot use DDR2 RAM in your mobo. It actually wouldn't fit, even if you tried to install it.
Can you tell us what motherboard you have?

Well actually my motherboard is a gigabyte 8VM800M-775.

You can't use DDR2 with your DDR slot.
