slow computer booting problem

the windows logo screen with blue bar appears for about 5-8 mins after this a black screen appears for 5-6 mins then it starts but very slow and then after few mins it suddenly hangs with no mouse movement and nothing happens with keyboard
i had formatted my c: drive(but not d and e drive) and installed win xp again but no effect
after instllng it worked only for 1-2 times but then again the same problem

and even problem is more serious now while booting in safe mode after loading file mup.sys it restarts automaticaly
will this be a software problem or hardware problem or may be there is virus in "d" or "e"
please suggest me the solution

Well, what you should do since you tested to reinstall the computer is to move all the data from the D drive and put it on an external drive. Connect it to another computer without opening any of the files and immedialtely run a complete virus scan on the drive. Make sure you use a good virus program that has the latest uppdates.
If you have a virus in one of the files, then thats your problem.

Then continue with a fresh install of your computer.

If you do not have a virus, go ahead and do a fresh install anyways.

Also, think about the programs that you used when you did your first reinstallation. There might be one that is causing your computer to hang.
