1x2Gb ram is possible when 2x1BG ram is allocated?

I have HP Pavilion DV6335CA & i want to upgrade the RAM.
It states that can have 2 sticks of 1gb RAM MAX. It says that can accept only 256mb, 512mb and 1gb of RAM sticks.
I have a 2gb sick & i want to put it in one of the slots & other slot empty so i can use this stick. Now when i turn it on it gets shut down at every start.
Is there any way that i can utilise this 2Gb memory stick?

    Hi,
I don't understand one simple thing, if you know that the memory slot can habdle only upto 1gb ram stick then why you want to put the 2gb ram stick in the slot which is resulting in continuas shut down the moment you start your system just because the hardware is wrong. I would place only 2 sticks in each slot & be happy.

I thought this is possible with some changes in the BIOS. Because i heard this is possible from my friend 2-3 days back.
So i can use the stick & that was the only reason.

Thats not possible at the first place if somehow it can be done but then is your laptop processor is able to handle more than 2gb ram is a question?
Better you stick with 2x1GB RAM.
Don't go for that stick in your laptop.
