HD 7970 crashing and locks up

Well, I am using a HD 7970 and it will always crash when I am playing games like bad company or any other. The monitor screen will completely freeze and then I simply have to restart my pc inorder to get the computer to work properly again. I have also heard that the lock-ups of this card is common and many people are facing this problem which is not solved yet? Are all of this hd 7970 series, made by the company, is defective? Thanks for any help

Yes, it is true that the Hd 7970 has some locking up problem when the monitor goes to sleep. But there are solutions given for this issue. Simply get a copy of MSI Afterburner software and then install it in your pc. After choosing the default setting in the MSI Afterburner, you need to go to its installed directory and find "MSIAfterburner.cfg" and then edit the "UnofficialOverclockingMode" by changing it to 1 from 0. After doing this you wont face any crashes or lock ups again.

There is some news about a fix for this issue soon going to be released. As for a suggestion that can solve the crashing issue while playing the game would be to play the game in directx 9 with shader model 3.0. With this setting you will get an increased stability in your system for gaming support. If you are lucky then you will not face any crashing at all while playing games on your pc.

Even I was facing the same problem discussed in the first post. The problem started when I upgraded my old video card to Hd 7970. I have tried all the latest graphics driver available at Amd website but nothing seems to be working in my case. I also tried the msi afterburner solution that is given above but that didnt help me either? The graphics card seems to be good, but the crashing is rather annoying.
