IPS panel or 120hz TN panel for gaming

Right now, for the past 3 years or so I am using a IPS LCD from NEC manufacturer and it is working great without any much of the trouble. But now that I am planning to build a new PC for gaming purpose, I am looking to buy a big monitor as well. It should be 24inch and it should have a good display. After searching on the net I found that 120hz TN panel would be the best to go for, but since I have used an IPS display prior to this monitor, I really cannot make my mind for which one I should be going for. So can anyone recommend me which monitor should I purchase for gaming purpose? Thank you.

You can go with the ASUS VG278H 120hz monitor that has a smooth motion. It has a refresh rate of 120Hz and response time of 2ms. It also comes with vibrant colors with Splendid Video Intelligence Technology. You will get full connectivity with this monitor with HDMI 1.4 ports, dual-link DVI-D and D-sub. Asus VG278H is definitely the best monitor if you want to experience 3D. To maximize its potential, dont let the light boost to 100% in 3d application, 60 to 80% will be more than enough.

Well, there are many good monitors available out there in the market. If you like IPS display then you should go for it. Also, if you like the NEC manufacturer then get one of theirs only. If you got a budget of more than $500 then you could for the same NEC P241 brand. It is one of the high end gaming monitors from NEC with hardware calibration and many new features.

Well, incase you liked your last monitor then you will be good to go with an IPS display like HP ZR30w 30-inch S-IPS LCD Monitor. Also, there are not much difference between a 120Hz panel vs 60Hz display. If you are thinking about resolution of the monitor then it usually depends on how far away you sit from your montior. Even at a 2.5 feet away from the screen the resolution of 2560x1600 will look much better than 1920x1080 at this distance and that too in detail.
