NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT driver update fails with an error

My system is having NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT video card and when I am trying to update the driver of the same then I am getting the below error message by the end of the installtion.:
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device.
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
I don’t know what’s going wrong, is there anyone who can help??

I wanted to know if you have uninstalled the old driver completely before installing the latest drive for it or not? If not then uninstall it first using driver sweeper and then precede installing new driver. If you are facing this issue with particular version of driver then you can try installing some other. Just refer to things I have mentioned and let me know if you are able to install driver for it successfully or not.

Ok, I was just trying to update the driver previously from device manager but after your suggestion I have uninstalled the old driver and have tried making a fresh installation of the driver but no avail. I am still getting the same error message at the end of the installation. Is there something wrong with the driver or the card? I am not able to make out, I have tried installing the driver several times but I did not had any luck yet. I am trying to install the below driver from the nvidia site:

• Version: 301.42 WHQL
• Release Date: 2012.05.22
• Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit
• Language: English (India)
• File Size: 160 MB

As far as I am aware this is the latest version of driver for my card, if you are aware of some other latest driver then let me know. i will try installing that.

In that case you can try installing the below beta driver for your NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT:

Now I have tried out installing the below version of drivers and unfortunately I have received the same error message for them all:

• GeForce 304.79 Driver - 304.79
• GeForce 304.48 Driver - 304.48
• GeForce 301.42 Driver - 301.42
• GeForce 301.24 Driver - 301.24

I am just running out of ideas and I don’t know what to do, what else can be wrong? I don’t think that I am missing anything at my end as far as the installing driver is concerned.

Perform below simple steps and post back the result you get after that:

1. Uninstall the current driver using driver sweeper
2. Remove all traces of files related to current driver in your system
3. Reboot your system
4. Download one of the drivers mentioned above
5. Reboot your system
