Reprogramming bugged Westinghouse LVM-37w3se EDID chips

My Xbox 360 has a Westinghouse LVM-37w3se EDID chip for displaying. Whenever I use the Xbox 360 to get any video or image of resolution of 1080p, the screen starts flickering. I know that is the bug in chip. It is a known issue that has been declared by the manufacturer itself. Does anybody know any method to rectify it and make the chip work normally? Also many times some black bars appear on the sides of the television that cuts off some part that is being displayed.

I know which black bars you are talking about, they appear right after BIOS screen goes and the main content start appearing. Xbox 360 detects the display unit whichever you are using with help of Nvidia drivers and PowerStrip as a WDE4207 or W4207. You are also having problems with the display when you run it on resolution of 1920 X 1080i. This is happening because; the chip is incompatible with the DVI and HDMI connection that Xbox 360 uses. After this problem came under notice of Microsoft, they released new PowerStrip in the market. You can replace the existing PowerStrip in your device with the new one to properly transfer the data to and from EDID memory. See to it that you buy only the licensed version and not some third company product. The official PowerStrip has lifetime warranty on it. The PowerStrip that is used in graphic card of a PC is also same as that of graphic card in the Xbox 360. So if you have an old graphic card from PC, you can use its PowerStrip too. Just see to it that it is not worn out too much. Never attempt to replace it with the PowerStrip from the laptop as it is very different from what you need.

The television that you are using to connect the Xbox 360 also has an EDID block in it. It is of size of 128 bytes with additional 128 bytes for detailed timings that have to be stored in the system. This will be surely present if your television supports HD images. The big problem about this WDID block is that there is no official, licensed or commercial software available to write required data in the EDID block of the display unit. So the capacity of the EDID block cannot be extended beyond 128 bytes even if more space is available for extension. Extending the size of EDID block is of no use, but if it becomes possible then it would be easy to add compatibility for higher level of resolutions in the television. The PowerStrip has the capacity to write data beyond 128 bytes in the EDID block, but this data cannot be controlled manually. The developers of the EDID block has declared that in next version of the PowerStrip will have the functionality to edit the data in the EDID block. This will provide a chance to repair the faulty EDID block as the current situation demands the replacement of EDID block if any fault is found.

You can fix the EDID blocks in the Nvidia graphic card by editing a part of code. You can use the Driver Sweeper to completely remove the graphic drivers. Then download new updated drivers from official website of Nvidia and install them in your system. Now you will the .inf file in the installed drivers. You have to edit this .inf file in a section by name nv_SoftwareDeviceSettings. At the part where you will find NV_Modes line, add the code I have given,
    HKR,, OverrideEdidFlags0, %REG_BINARY%, 5C,85,07,42,00,00,FF,FF,04,00,00,00,00,80,00,FF,FF,FF,FF,FF,FF,00,5C,85,FA,14,00,00,00,00,10,11,01,0 3,80,52,2E,78,2A,E6,9D,A3,54,4A,99,26,0F,47,4A,A1,08,00,81,C0,81,80,81,00,8B,C0,01,01,01,01,01,01,01 ,01,02,3A,80,18,71,38,2D,40,58,2C,45,00,C4,8E,21,00,00,1E,00,00,00,FD,00,3A,48,1E,44,0F,00,0A,20,20, 20,20,20,20,00,00,00,FC,00,57,65,73,74,69,6E,67,68,6F,75,73,65,20,00,00,00,FC,00,4C,56,4D,2D,33,37,7 7,33,73,65,0A,20,20,01,49
Now save and close the file. Now restart the system. By this method you can add a new resolution to the EDID block, which is of 1360x765. Now that the EDID block has accepted a bigger resolution, it will have no problem accepting a lower resolution that it. Now the television will start supporting 1080p resolution. With 162.xx series of the drivers in the system, the black bars that you have mentioned go away and you will have a full display for your use.

Another method to achieve the same result is to replace the Nvidia drivers, that is uninstall the Nvidia drivers and reinstall them with certain tweaking. You will need to purchase the PowerStrip and then extract .dat files from it. In the control panel of the PowerStrip, you will find an option ‘Read data directly from monitor’. There you will have to choose the display in which you want the display. It will show the display unit as ‘W4207’. This is the name of Westinghouse LVM-37w3se EDID chip which has bug in it. Now you will get an option ‘Update EDID’. Click on it and the updating will start. After a while, that is after some five minutes, a message will appear saying ‘valid EEPROM was found’. Click yes and then proceed. If no proper EEPROM is found then it will give you few options to choose your desired EEPROM. Try various combinations to find which one of it works. At least one of them is bound to work. Now check if your graphic card is using a DVI or HDMI connection. Then find a file by name WDE14FAD.dat. The D at the end of the name suggests that it will use digital signals. If the graphic card is connected using a VGA connection, then you have to use WDE14FAA.dat file. Here A at the end of the end suggests that you are using Analog signals. The process will then proceed automatically and thus update the Westinghouse LVM-37w3se EDID chip and eliminate the bug.
