Crossfire AMD Radeon HD 6950 Or single AMD Radeon HD 7870

right now I am looking to build my computer so that I play the video games like Call of Duty, batman. Right now I am having 6950 2gb and I was thinking that addition of the another card will be larger update as compared to new AMD Radeon HD 7870. So far I am having the budget of $400 so I cannot get higher of it.

Looking at the situation I think you should get another 6950 2gb if you are able to get used one at the rate of $20. As far as 7870 is concerned it would be around 25% faster than that of the 6950. If you don’t wanted to do the same as well than you have to sell 6950 and simply get another 7970 for you.

I wanted to tell you that you should simply switch to 6950 to a 6970 and you will be enough close to the 7870 with having only single graphic card. couple of 6950s in Crossfire enough faster than that of the single 7870. If you don’t wanted to wait for another some more days in order to get Kepler NDA then I recommend that you should simply get the another couple of 2GB 6950 or simply sell 6950 and get the money for 7950 or 7970..

According to me there will not be any major issue with the crossfire scenario. As you are having already one graphic card so it seems to be enough cheaper for you. the only thing which is making me worried is power draw of 7870. I have already done with the crossfire without having any issue. but in the situation of mine I am looking for the latest version of graphic card for me. 6990 benches and also increasing the same. 6950 in the crossfire will destroy 7970 but there will be some issue. personally I don’t wanted to use go dual card just because of micro stutter.

7870 would be 5-10% slower than that of the GTX 580. However if you have overclocked to 20-30% would make the thing quite easy and it will make the increment in the performance by 10-15% than that of GTX 680. 7950 is 40-60% to faster than that of 6950. Hence you will think about the performance boost for 50% hence it should be 7870 overclocked without having CF and microstuttering. If you have 6950 CF will be 70-90% faster as compared to single 6950. However you will face problem like microstuttering, power draw.

As far as I know overclocked 7870 will not be able to beat the GTX680 by 10-15%. It is not necessary that you will have microstuttering issues.

6950 cf supposed to be as fast as overclocked 7970 and 7870 overclocked should be same as stock 7950. There is a difference between stock 7950 and overclocked 7970. If you are having enough budget then I recommend to go for 680.
