ASUS Radeon HD 6870 CrossFire versus AMD Radeon HD 7950

I am using PC which has AMD Phenom II processor in it. I am planning to buy a new graphic car for gaming. I have two graphic cards in my sight, one is AMD Radeon HD 6870 crossfire and another one is AMD Radeon HD 7950. Which is better one when both are compared among each other? Has anyone used it to suggest me which should I buy?

Graphic card that can be best for you system depends on the amount of scaling you require and for which game you require also matters. The behavior of the graphic card changes according to different games that you play. The behavior will be different when you play Battlefield 3 and it will also differ when you play Crysis 2 using same graphic card. If you expect every game to perform the same way at 1080p resolution, then you are wrong. If the AMD Phenom II processor is running at full capacity after attaching the graphic card, then you will have less headroom available for overclocking the graphic card. This problem is mostly seen in AMD Radeon HD 6870 CrossFire, but not in AMD Radeon HD 7950.

AMD Radeon HD 6870 CrossFire has functionality of CrossFire technology. You can use 2 of these graphic cards and crossfire them for better performance and high quality graphics. In AMD Radeon HD 7950, this crossfire technology is not available. But the quality of graphics given by AMD Radeon HD 7950 is very high. It does not require another graphic card to boost its quality.

Re: ASUS Radeon HD 6870 CrossFire versus AMD Radeon HD 7950

AMD Radeon HD 6870 CrossFire is now in market for a long time and thus its price is now stable. But AMD Radeon HD 7950 is new and its price is very high. Also the demand for it is very high due to which chances you finding it easily will be less. I suggest that you wait for some time fort price to come down. AMD is in compition with Nvidia in terms of graphic cards. So to survive in this competition, AMD is bound to reduce the price of its graphic cards in some days.

AMD Radeon HD 7950 is designed by keeping the future requirements in mind. This graphic card will work normally for the games being released in next 3 to 4 years. You won’t need to replace it for future games. Also if you overclock it, then it will outperform a combination of crossfire enabled AMD Radeon HD 6870 graphic cards. I suggest you to buy a AMD Radeon HD 7950 graphic card.
