Using 2 GeForce GTX 580 SLI with 120hz 2D monitor

well below mentioned is the system specification of my computer.

    Alienware Area 51
    Windows 7 64bit Home Premium
    Intel i7-990X overclock to 4.0gHz
    12 GB RAM
    Crucial m4 512gb SSD
    GTX 580 1.5gb
Another graphic card I have ordered and I will go for SLI as soon as new card would arrive. I am looking to get 120Hz monitor and I wanted to have 120FPS in 2D. right now I am having 28" Hanns G. how it will work? I know that there will be need of 2 DVI cables. Do you getting 120FPS? Or something near to that? Does it is looking better than that of 60fps? Let me know about the experience of yours.

If you are not looking to run 3D games then I recommend that you should go for standard 60hz monitor. Since 120hz monitor is used for the 3D purposes. Also there are less people who are aware of differences between the 60fps and 120. Sine both the type of monitor will give you smooth gameplay.

The thing FPS is dependent on the gameplay which you are playing. Like you I am also having same graphic card. Well I am getting an average of 100fp in the most of the level of Battlefield 3 with highest settings. While playing Crysis 2 I am getting 80fps . you will not need of so I am suspecting that you have to struggle to get 80fps while playing the game on the computer of yours.

Hey thanks a lot for prompt reply of yours. you have mentioned that you are getting 100FPS while plying B3 and 80FPS while playing Crysis 2. So I am suspecting that you will get screen tearing since monitor is having capability to handle 60FPS. You have to turn on Vsync which is having caps at 60fps and sometime it will cause interface lag..
If you are using 120hz monitor then there will not be need of Vsync and you will be able to get 100FPS. I wanted to know people who is having SLI GTX580 which has been gone for 120hz.

As far as I know human eyes can computer 40 to 50 FPS while playing the game. I recommend that you should build a computer which can give you 60 to 70 FPS and there should not be any massive fps drops. Right now I am playing games on 60hz 40 inch Sony Bravia 1080p through 1920x1080.

Well you can afford i7-990x and 512GB SSD and 2 GTX 580 then why you are not purchasing 120Hz monitor. You should not do photoshop or any kind of serious 2D work on the 120Hz monitor. Any image which is looking perfect on the 120Hz display might look dark on the 60Hz display. I let you know that 120Hz displays are supposed to be bright since 3D glasses are blocking the 50% of light. Also you will not get the screen tearing and there would not be any mouse lag when you have turned off v-sync. Doing gaming at 100+ fps is seems to be really smooth when you have turned on V-Sync but still there will be less mouse lg. I used to play all the video games by turning on V-Sync or in 3D.

Faster the refresh rate then faster would be the reaction time. If any of the enemy comes in front of you on the 60Hz display then you will need to wait for 0 to 0.0167 before you are see enemy. On 120Hz display you have to wait for the 0 to 0.00833s before the appearance of enemy and begin for reaction. Faster reaction is also applicable to mouse as well as keyboard commands.
If you wanted to find out the difference between 30Hz and 60Hz then you have to set the refresh rate to 30Hz and play the game. you will get the difference.

According to me you should go for 120Hz display since it give less screen tearing. 120Hz monitor with v-sync on would give the great gaming experience and there would be less mouse lag. You have to enable triple buffering on the Nvidia Control Panel in case you wanted to turn on v-sync. It will also help you to enable the triple buffering for the higher frame rate.
You have to also use the dual-link DVI which is provided on the 120Hz monitor. You should not use old single-link DVI cable which is being used for 60Hz monitors.
