Corsair AX1200W PSU blewed up becuase of 3-way 580 Classified 3GB

Hello friends, i love my card, 3-way Sli setup with air-cooled 3GB 580 Classified cards. It run the Battlefield 3 game flawless in ultra setting. It use 2500 MB VRAM. When i change the on-board switch to OC mode for all my card and pressed the start button then Corsair AX 1200W blewed up, i did troubleshooting for it and founded it is completely gone. Have to do RMA of it. I have ordered a new AX 1200W when i got it. I wanted to changes in voltage for my cards but not having the guts to do it. Should i do or not? If i do it then it will also blew it? What you people have to say about it? Is the PSU good or not? What might be problem when i have switch the OC switch on the card which causes AX 1200 to blow? I am also having other stuff such as Intel 2700K, Corsair H80 Cooling system, ASUS Maximus IV Extreme Z68, 16 GB Corsair 1600Mhz RAM, 2xIntel SSD in Raid 0 3 GB System, 2xWD Black Raid 0 6GB/s Storage, 6 Case Fans, DVD Reader/Writer. I also wanted to know that what does OC switch do? Please tell me, thank you.

If you are running 3 GTX580 Classified cards and also doing over-volting then you need to have PSU which is more than 1200 W. If it has happen with me then i have ordered another PSU and waited for it and get the cable to run two PSU's. Where the Overclock Switch to cause then it will blow instantly, because you do not get the chance to increase the voltage until the OC BIOS increases for you. One of my friend was having same config, then when he use to run setup for overclocking then he used to 4 to 6 1200 W EVGA PSU, depending motherboard you are having it. He was using the LN2 and pushing the GPU to very high.

This is very much strange thing for me, whereas i believe that AX 1200 is enough to run 3 cards until you are running them a high clocks under load. Even it is shocking for me that you are lack enough of PCIe power connectors and you are using it without adapters.

I was planning to attach a another PSU when i will get back but older AX 1200W, and also place the order for little adapter for it. Will be putting two of the cards on it so that i can get some of the strain between them. But will wait till it come back from RMA before i switch to OC mode again just to be safe. I think that i have underestimated the raw power of the cards and also cards demands for power sources. Even the clocks will be set to stock when i switched to OC mode.

One thing that i would like to tell about it, is that these classifieds cards need to have 2 x 8 pins and 1 x 6 pins, so you need to have those without that it is not worth for you.

When i have done the overclocking for my TRI SLI of the reference GTX580 3GB at 1.15 V, then during that AX 1200W was consuming 1300 W power from my wall socket, that means that it was giving a 1050W as output if it was 80% efficiency. If your classified are been running at voltage higher more than 1.15 V then i would say that AX 1200W will be pushing itself to its limit. You can try the Enermax 1350W even you can go for Enermax 1500W, if you are playing game with overclocking then you should go with these PSU.

I agree with the point, i feel that those things are bit exotic, it is been problem that it will be raging hell and also timeless waiting to handle RMA and other stuff. I love the Corsair very much and they do outstand what they have told about it and also i will be stick to it. Where i will be getting the second AX 1200 which solve the problem of mine and will check the things which are remaining and try to fix it from locally. Is there a 10 PCI-e connections/Slots in those?

If you are checking for PCIe power connection then let me tell you that there is no PCIe power connection, it is only CPU power, which will not working with the use of PCIe power.

Are you having the AX 1200W, i wanted to know that your AX 1200 has arrived with 8 slots under the sign stating PCI-E? Whereas it seem same everything, i find the cable ends to be different. Does i am doing something wrong with it?

It is been written that it is 6+2 PCIe and 4+4 CPU, where the plugs which are there on the cable for CPU power will be not fit to PCIe power receptacle. you can check it that it is completely out, where the cable ends are been different and also it is wired different. Even you make use any of the outputs for CPU or GPU as long as you use the correct cable.
