A BIOS from another manufacturer, I would not recommend, and I also saw no sense in it to flash the BIOS, except try to optimize clock or voltage.

A BIOS update your 3870 makes no sense, unless you want OCn and the card works just fine. A BIOS from other manufacturers would go as long as both cards are identical to hardware technology. I sometimes even a BIOS from Club 3D flashed to one of GeCube HD2900XT it. Was not a problem.
