Can we SLI two Nvidia Geforce GTX cards

Hi all, I have got a new GTX 560 Ti FPB yesterday to replace my gtx 470 card. I had once read online that to use SLI, I would have to buy a second gtx 560 Ti or else it won't work. But one of my friends (the one who recommended the 560 to me) and who is a hardware specialist for a computer repair company told me that they are similar enough to work with SLI. So Is this true, or should I just use the 470 as a dedicated phys X card? Also the gtx 560 Ti is EVGA model and the gtx 470 is PNY model, so will that matter?

You cannot have 2 different pairs of cards in SLI in the same system. (EG 2x GTX285s + 2x 9800GTXs) You can only SLi cards that have same bios and with identical model name. for e.g. you can sli GTX480 with a GTX480, GTX285 with GTX285, 8800GT with 8800GT. Etc.The only exceptions to this rule are with the 9800GTX, 9800GTX+ and GTS250, which are all technically the same and can work in SLI with each other - assuming the other requirements are met.
Also the V Ram must be of same amount on both card's to sli them, however core and shadier clock's can be different. You cannot use a '256MB' version with a '512MB' version or '1GB' version with a '2GB' version in SLI. Etc.Example: You can SLi two GTX 580's Superclocked. You cannot SLi a GTX 480 and a GTX 580 together.

No you cannot SLi 2 different cards On some OEM systems (Dell / Alien ware in particular) you may be unable to SLI the existing OEM graphics card with a standard retail version of the card due to graphics card or motherboard BIOS restrictions.

Re: Can we SLI two Nvidia Geforce GTX cards

Glad I found this thread. I'm thinking of SLI'ing a Geforce GTX 260 Black edition with a GTX 260 standard edition. They are the same specs except the Black Edition is OC'd at 666 mhz/216 processor cores while the standard 260 is at 530 mhz/188 cores. They have the same amount of memory at 896mbs though. Is it possible to SLI these two cards sucessfully?
    THanks for any help...

Yes with the same specs and video cards you can definately sli both the cards. But you will have to keep the card running at same speed and at same clocked cores, or it might result into instability.
