Can Nvidia and ATI be compatible together

And it looks that though Nvidia is superior for a few things, ATI is superior for some other things. If you have a GTX 590 and an ATI Radeon HD 6000 Series Graphics Card in the same system, May I know that will these two cards be well-suited with each other, or would I just get read the following table for more information
Best Case

• I might be in need of a custom new driver to for making them compatible.
• I will only use one of the two cards at a time

The worst case possible

• both cards might get damaged (Smoke)
• Blue Screen O' Death
• Critical Existence Failure

Will it work? Yes. You just need to install with their default drivers... Provided you use Windows 7 or XP. Vista is a no go. (Vista will let you only use of a single graphics driver) You would only be able to use the card you have screens plugged into, but you can have a multi monitor setup. (Then again most modern AMD/ATI GPUs support Eye-finity nowadays, making the Nvidia GPU kind of superfluous for multi-monitor) With some driver hacking, you can actually use an Nvidia card for PhysX with an ATI/AMD mainly GPU. (This is totally knocked out of the question generally) Of course, tbh, such a setup is not suggested and is just asking for problems.

In fact pretty easy since you by now have one client set up. Make new directories by replicating your first GPU folder. (Rename suitably) Remove all files in the new Working directories and the whole thing but the .dll and .cfg files in the folding directories. Edit the .cfg files with dissimilar machine ID numbers. Right click on your GPU start up shortcut and be sure that there is a -gpu 0 flag in the Target box. Click OK. Make duplicate copies of your current GPU start up shortcut. (Rename appropriately) Right click on one of the new shortcuts and select Properties. In the Target box, change -gpu 0 to -gpu 1 and - gpu 2 as appropriate and change the -forcegpu to -forcegpu Nvidia_g80. In the Start In box modify the directories to the new one you shaped. Click OK.

Yes it is quite possible. I had it functioning on XP, and now on Win 7. Not sure about Vista. For Win 7 you will need a dummy plug for the next GPU: Install drivers for both cards. Go to display properties. Select your main display.Install this in your C:\Program Files .Copy the folder from your main installation into: C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming
change the name of the folders to distinguish between ATI and Nvidia. Create to shortcuts on your desktop.Make changes in twoproperties. ATI Shortcut: Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Folding@home\Folding@home-gpu\Folding@home.exe" -gpu 0 -forcegpu ati_r700 Start In: C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Roaming\Folding@home-gpuATI. nV Shortcut: Target: C:\Program Files (x86)\Folding@home\Folding@home-gpu\Folding@home.exe" -local -forcegpu nvidia_g80 Start In: C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Roaming\Folding@home-gpunVidia
You will have to change the forcegpu flag to your appropriate GPU.
