    External monitor problem

My laptop screen is broken so I was using an acer monitor I have for an
external monitor and it was working until last night. I know the monitor stills
works because I'm using it right now with an old pc I have.

So the monitor is always in the power saver mode/sleep mode. Even during start up too. It goes to the sleep mode right when it is plugged in. I've tried different resolutions and the fn+f4 button. Maybe the vga port went bad? This happened after I unplugged the monitor to transfer to another one. The HDMI display still works though, but I don't know if that means anything.

    Thanks in advance!
