Is it worth playing on a 3D TV?

Right now I am thinking about buying a 3D TV but I don’t know whether it will be going to be the best buy or not. Is it really worth playing on 3D TV rather than HDTV? I know that it will going to be quite cooler but I too think that it is fairly expensive. Is there any alternative option other than this? Please suggest me something.
