Hdtv is high definition tvs which contain 720p and 1080p resolutions where p indicates progressive scan ,720p is 1280x720 and 1080p is 1920x1080 resolution for more about hdtv check this guides High Definition television HDtv and How to choose your LCD flat screen TV

its simple 2560x1600 have so much better dpi than the 1920x1080 display setting is 2560x1600 is better than hdtv. but for game at that resolution you need some much good graphics card hardware support .The G80 GPU on the 8800 ultra platform has a much wider memory bandwidth so it can handle much larger resolutions .

What graphics card do you have to game with that beast
to max it out you would need like dual gtx 260's or a gtx 295

    unsure Re: 2560 x 1600 vs 1080p Hdtv monitor

I have a 30" cinema display that I rarely run at 2560x1600.....why you may ask????? cause i can't read icon text from my couch....
For that reason I usually just let my mac mini push it @ 1280x800 "just between you and me people" videos and dvd's look the same as they do when i let my powerbook push the beast @ it's full res..... the exact same... dual link my ass...

Screens like these aren't really made for games.
They need at least half a gig of video ram so they don't get choppy at full res plus you don't really need it..

If you truly are a gamer than game on a console where it's best.
PS3 + 50" lg 1080 plasma = almost $800.00 less than a cinema display "if you take apple care" and the ps3 will kick the shit out most computer's out there "as far as gaming goes".........

    ur kidding right?
a Ps3 does not kick the shit out of most computers out there
A good computer beats console's anyday
there are lots of comparisons of the same game graphics in ps3 vs xbox 360 vs pc and the pc wins every single time

do you or anybody you know have a pc that out performs a ps3???
If so please let us know how much was spent on this kind of performance???
Than compare that price to a ps3's price tag...
Graphic wise I agree with you 100% the pc wins "after a mac" but overall consoles do tend to run games smoother.

    Re: 2560 x 1600 vs 1080p Hdtv monitor

    ok well a 160 gb ps3 costs 500 USD

Ok this was a system on a different site they built.

    Component Model Price (USD)
    CPU Intel Pentium E5200 2.5 GHz (oc'ed to 3.9ghz) $83
    Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L $100
    RAM G.Skill HK 4 GB DDR2-800 (PC2 6400) $45
    Graphics Sapphire 100259L Radeon HD 4870 512 MB $200
Hard Drives Samsung SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500 GB $55
    Sound Integrated HD Audio 0
    Network Integrated Gigabit Networking 0
    Case Rosewill R222-P-BK $22
    Power Raidmax 530w $35
    Optical LITE-ON 20X DVD±R SATA Model iHAS120-04 $24

    Total Price:
    $564

So this system is barely more and it can play games at higher than 1080 p (1920x1200) with maxxed quality (except crysis) and it has a hard drive more than 3x bigger and u can do normal computer applications
and maxxing out a game on pc is higher than ps3 quality
lets not take this thread off topic anymore

There is no perfect screening unit for both TV and PC monitor. Dell 30 ", 1080p will show, but since its native resolution is 1600 vertical, there will be black bars above and below the picture.I noticed that the 2560 x 1600 monitors had less contrast ratio, and responce time for almost double the price. The Westinghouse 47" 1080p monitor is a true 1080p monitor, combining leading-edge technology with stylish design, to deliver the ultimate in entertainment enjoyment.

Wow, buddy... I know this shit was like two years ago, but even then.. my PC will absolutely annihilate the PSIII, bring it down to its bloody knees and make it wimper and cry about how it cannot, ever in a million years keep up with TOP END PCs. You are very stupid and shouldn't post comments on the internet, at least about gaming 'cause you know NOTHING about it! -_- have a good day bro.
