    Upgrading Optiplex 745 GPU

Hello friends I have come here to seek some advice from you all and that is for the GPU upgrade actually one of my friend is getting an old Optiplex 745 small form and that too with integrated graphics. So is it possible to connect it with the radeon 5450? I know it is a bit low profile card but what I've read, it is that it doesn't require being connected to the PSU. So is it ok if I can go ahead with that process do let me know about it as soon as possible.

Physical room might be a problem in SFF cases. Open the side panel and take a look and make some measurements. This will provide a better answer than guess. The power supply is 275 W - this is not support discrete graphics cards in any significant capacity. The maximum power that was thrown by the GeForce GT 220 is 58 watts. The 275 watt PSU is not enough for this card. At best, they have a Optiplex 745 SMT marginal.I and has a 305 watt power supply - just enough for a small graphics card, 256 MB.

I have the same 305watt power supply in my Optiplex 745 and am running an ATI 4650 with no problems and use of facilities and overclocking saturation. The problem we have is not power, but the fact of how small PCIexpress does not have a port. It only has a PCI slot and this should be a low-profile card. All games can be played, but mind you it will not be a very good experience. Sorry, and try to get them not to buy this equipment. Let me know if you have other options and I can tell what is the best selection in his case.

    Re: Upgrading Optiplex 745 GPU

I have a desktop OptiPlex 745 (SFF and size from mini-tower) If you can get a HD5670 set it will work with the power supply it 275W and SFF PCI-Express for 745 SFF specs Ignore what it says about 25w I have a HD4650 TOC greatly there and attracts about 65 watts at maximum and also did a BSEL Pin Mod and 1.8GHz 800FSB E4300 2.4GHz 1066MHz FSB TOC. I am now waiting in the mail for a E4500 2.4GHz 800FSB ranging from 2.93 (3.0 GHz) 1066 UPM BTW. Dell are rated at maximum continuous power not all power supplies aftermarket can add about 50 to 75Watts. You can get a rating with 375watt power 6-pin connector out of a XPS 420 and the 745 fits on Ebay are cheap HD4670 or HD5670 would be a wise decision. Also, the GT240 is another recommended option for this tower.

    Re: Upgrading Optiplex 745 GPU

Looking at the specifications from dell it seems that PCIE x 16 1.1 slot a 2.0 card would work if you look at my case I have a HD 4650 in my desktop form factor with same specification i feel very much confident with my research on the 745 that the HD5670 should work no problem so that's what I am trying to say here, so do the necessary changes that I have recommended you here so let me know if there is any issues I am waiting for your reply.

If you ask me then I would say that Radeon HD 5570 1GB is a much better option to try with so that’s what I am saying here and also one more thing that I would like to recommend here is that if you are thinking of some better card then better opt for the 5670 it might be some 5 dollars more than the current card but it’s a superior card and you can count on its performance so that’s what I am trying to say here hope you have got the necessary suggestions on the topic.
