ATI Radeon 6870 CF vs. ATI Radeon 6950 CF

Will I see noticeable performance gains in CF with dual 6870's? Or should I wait to see how 6950's stack up in comparison? Or can I have some information on ATI Radeon 6950 regarding its price and specifications. I thing ATI Radeon 6950 looks better and world be more viable option then the former one may be around $100 approximately. Currently I am using 2x5850 in CF and 3x24” monitors.

Your 5850 is basically same as your ATI Radeon 6870 and still ATI Radeon 6950 is a way to go. So I would recommend 2x6950 for better performance gain in CF. Also ATI Radeon 6950 has 2gb of VRAM that is more suitable then the other one. Just check that you have a monitor with display port output. Or you can get a power supply that can handle it which has active display port adapter you can get at minimal price.

You could place two or more ATI Radeon graphics card into a Crossfire compatible motherboard, or place two or more NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards in SLI mode on a compatible motherboard. A Crossfire compatible motherboard is any motherboard having multiple PCIex16 slots. SLI certified motherboard is an nForce motherboard having more than two PCIe x16 slots. If the motherboard does not have the SLI certification mentioned on the box, it is likely that it is not SLI compatible.

The 6950 model pushes roughly 18K6 GPU and 19K8 on the overall performance score. The 6950 in CFX pushes roughly 30K6 GPU and 28K2 on the overall performance score. Again superb numbers really. A lot can be said about the 3DMark series, yet the GPU score really is good and reproduces a very reliable number that scales well and can be considered trustworthy. I have to admit I was a little surprised by the excellent performance scaling we see on the R6950. Where the single card is a little so-so to position, we can surely recommend going the CrossfireX route. Granted, two cards will set you back a chunk load of money at roughly 550 EUR, but the performance gained here is truly amazing.
