Performance of 2x Radeon HD 6870

I am sure that you must be knowing, that with the Radeon HD 6800-series AMD 2010, a new "Performance Series" presented at the end, which for the time being of the Radeon HD 6870 and Radeon HD 6850 was composed. While there have been of the latter from the very first day on the number of original design manufacturers, had to manage the larger version a long time exclusively to the not exactly ideal reference design. Actually I want to try the 2x Radeon HD 6870, but never tried of it. I am sure that performance will increase, still want to know about it. Please provide some information about the performance of 2x Radeon HD 6870. More detailed notes would be helpful.

This situation has now changed and enter the first partner card away from the standard version, the dealer shelves. Sun is now entering into with the MSI Radeon HD 6870 Twin Frozr II, while the PowerColor Radeon HD 6870 PCS + sets. Both 3D accelerators are not only equipped with a modified cooling system, but with higher clock speeds. MSI has a total of two variants of the Radeon HD 6870 in its own categories:
    • MSI Radeon HD 6870: Reference Design, Standard clock speeds, 1,024 MB
    • MSI Radeon HD 6870 Frozr Twin II: design your own, slightly higher clock speeds, 1,024 MB

The following benchmarks were with the current graphics card test system based on an Intel Core i7 965 was determined. This is operated with a clock of 3.87 GHz to thwart not the cards unnecessarily. As the driver came for all measurements (including power consumption and volume) of the Catalyst 10.10E.

Along with that here is the performance rating :

MSI and PowerColor increase the frequency of its products increased only slightly compared to the reference design, so the graphics card can deduct only marginal. Under 1,920 x 1,200 is for the MSI Radeon HD 6870 Twin Frozr II, on average, recorded a performance increase of two percent, and similarly for the PowerColor Radeon HD 6870 PCS + there are, however, no fewer than four percent.

The volume is the major flaw of the reference design of the Radeon HD 6870, because under load the corresponding products are not exactly known as a quieter option. The two partner cards perform with their own cooling systems to work as even much better. On Windows, we attach the PowerColor Radeon HD 6870 PCS + previously, however, a noise level of 42 decibels, which is certainly a good result, but something worse than a standard model. The MSI Radeon HD 6870 Twin sets Frozr II been here a highlight, as at 38.5 decibels is the quietest by far tested video card. Under load the MSI card is then good to 48.5 decibels, which is significantly quieter than the reference design. The fan can be heard while out of a closed housing disturbs the gaming experience but at no time.

Re: Performance of 2x Radeon HD 6870

At the temperatures in the 2D mode, all Radeon-HD-6870 cards are close together, including the reference design and are not warmer than 41 to 43 degrees Celsius. Under load the PowerColor card comes to 86 degrees (nine degrees more than a standard model), the MSI version reaches 90 degrees Celsius (13 degrees more). The latter is quite high, so it should be provided for a good case cooling. In the case can not be expected but with problems. Due to the energy-saving mechanism are under Windows again all Radeon HD 6870 products in terms of power consumption with 166-168 watts (meaning the entire PC) close together. Under load, the PowerColor Radeon HD 6870 PCS + 333-Watt 18 Watt then hungrier than the reference design, the MSI Radeon HD 6870 Twin Frozr II with 339 Watt Watt even 24th The higher frequencies thus pay their toll, so that both graphics cards are finally hungry faster than Radeon HD 6950.

Re: Performance of 2x Radeon HD 6870

Since the Radeon HD 6870 of house already comes along with high frequencies, the clock potential is not too good. Thus, for the MSI Radeon HD 6870 Twin Frozr II, the Barts-GPU from 920 MHz to 60 MHz to 980 MHz overclock the memory from 2100 MHz to 250 MHz to 2,350 MHz. The performance increases so depending on the application of five to seven percent. With the PowerColor Radeon HD 6870 PCS + it looks even scarcer. More than a gain of 21 MHz at Bart's computing core is not there, resulting in 961 MHz. The GDDR5 memory displays the other hand, OC-friendly and allows for a multi-clock of 300 MHz, which has a 2,500 MHz Endtakt result. The rate increases by three to four percent. Through these measures is the MSI-accelerator (1.187 volts) six watts more from the line and is equal to 3.5 decibels louder. On the PowerColor card (1.174 volts), there are seven watts and four decibels.
