ATI HD5850 issue with Windows 7

Just bought a new Gateway FX desktop, came with Win 7 and a 5850 card. Tried playing Crysis demo, game very fuzzy. Updated to latest ATI driver, cleared game up perectly but it shrunk the size of the desktop image on my 24" LCD monitor. Have about a 1" black bar around the 4 edges of the screen now.

I rolled back the ATI driver, got my screen image back to where it should be but the game image is terrible.

Don't know if it matters but the monitor is connected with an HDMI cable and screen res is 1920x1080.

Thanks for any help. I have basic computer knowledge but not much beyond that!

Have you tried to change the settings of the games?? Because even after updating the drivers you are still getting the problem, then changing the video settings from option menu in appropriate game will help you.
