Alienware Area-51 m15x Video Card Compatibility

On eBay, I just bought Alienware Area-51 m15x. It is simply great. It has GeForce 8600m in it and I want it upgraded. I want to know which cards can I have for my laptop so that I can have the things working around me. I have seen many people who have 260m and 280m in their laptops. Will putting other videocards cause any problem. Also can I use MXM 3 cards? On the cheapest side 160m GTX is the one that I find cheap, can I go for that? I have heard that trying other cards are not going to work, but then also I want to try it. Please suggest.

Sorry friend, you can not use, MXM 3 for your laptop. Man it is also very expensive. In my opinion if you have heard that the other cards won't work then why are you attempting for this. Also the attempt that you are trying to make is is very expensive. If, I would have been in your place I ould have tried selling the laptop and buy another one. Why are you going for such an attempt. Please give a thought of what are you attempting to do.

Upgrading to 260m 2.0 in MXM will cost you nearly 15750Rs.. You can see that this is not cheap, just for trying. I totally agree with Gonzo. If, however you want to go for the performance increment then why to go for the 260m, go for the 280m. It will cost nearly 20250Rs.. It is the best as a far as I know for your laptop. You will get what you want, please do not go for the more bigger cards, and if you go, it will be better to buy a new laptop.

I was just having a look at this section and I got my eyes stuck to the discussion going on here. The starter of this thread has written that he is using GeForce 8600m on his laptop, so, I would suggest you to go for the 880GTX. It will be great, since 880GTX has been designed to work on the Alienware Area-51 m15x. If you want performance then mark my words that your laptop's performance will reach to a lot increased level. Hope that you got my words.

I like my laptop, and I really do not wish to buy another. Other fact is that I do not want to put more money in it. The card of what Regina told is very expensive, so I can not afford to have that. I am not an extreme gamer. So, can I put MXM 2 9600m GT or the 9650m GT? On eBay these cards are really cheap. Also is MXM 2 compatible? I have also heard that it uses MXM 2.1, is it true?
