Acer Monitor AL2216W failed to communicate with computer

Monitor failed to communicate with computer. My PC is always on and the monitor did not display one morning. The most I can get out of it now is the Acer logo fading off and on. When I restart the PC, the monitor display's "no signal" until the system boots up and the the logo appears but nothing more.
Checked the plug connect at computer. I am using an old crt now so the PC is ok. Could it be the drivers? There was a storm the night before the problem, but nothing else was affected.
I am running Vista OS. The monitor is 2 yrs old -as is the PC.

Hi, what is your computer specifications? Have you connected your Acer monitor to a graphic card or on a onboard video towards your computer? Usually, monitor would not matter that much, the one taking care of the resolution should be the video card. If the video card's driver is installed then it should show in the device manager under "display adapters", if it is not installed it shows under "other devices".
