It can be possible that when you had upgraded the operating system of your HP computer system from the Windows Vista to the Windows 7 Operating system the computer not detected the graphic card connected to this computer system. So i think you should remove the Graphic card from the motherboard and again fix it in the graphic card slot properly by cleaning the both hardwares. If the above mentioned is the problem then it will be fixed by doing this.

First f all make sure that this NVIDIA Geforce 8400M GS graphic card hardware device connected to your computer system is enabled. If it is disabled from the device manager then it will not work at all in your computer system. For checking this go to the device manager. you can go to the device manager by right click and selecting manage option. Right click on the graphic card device. If it is showing the Enable option then this device is disabled previously. Select the "Enable" Option. Now this graphic card will work properly in this HP computer system.

First of all check that the driver software you have installed in your computer system for this NVIDIA Geforce 8400M GS graphic card for using it with the Windows 7 operating system. May be you have installed the driver software of some other operating system in the Windows 7 operating system that is why the graphic card is not working with the Windows 7 operating system. This is the possibility that the Graphic card or the slot of the graphic card on the motherboard is physically damaged that is why the graphic card is not detected or it is not working properly in the computer system which has the Windows 7 operating system. Check this graphic card in some other computer which has the windows 7 operating system. If it is working then the motherboard slot is damaged. You will have to repair the motherboard.
