Is there any need for a Graphics card for a Photoshop user ?

One of my friends is a graphics artist and he mainly uses Illustrator/Photoshop for his work and nothing like 3d Studio Max/Maya. Currently he is planning to assemble a new desktop.

Is it better to have a well configured machine with the right processor + MB + RAM(devoid of Graphics card) ?

My question is that does he need a Graphics card for his job ? Is that a waste of money since he is not into gaming/video editing/SFX work etc. ?

As you have said that your friend does not work on 3d Studio Max/Maya.Then there is no need to buy any Graphics card because Photoshop does not use it. Photoshop is only limited to ram and processor.

Hi friend,

3D application programing interface is not used by the Photoshop. Photoshop also does nothing to do with Graphic card because it does not transfer any data to the Graphic Card, so its wast of money for buying Graphic card. Only CPU and RAM does the functioning with the Photoshop

I think there is no need to buy graphics card for photoshop. You requires only powerful ram and processor for photoshop. If you want to buy any graphics card then you can buy EVGA 8600 GT or XFX Geforce 8600GT.
