video card for a asus motherboard

this is a huge message please wait and read till the end ! .

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

These are my pc details

Procesor : Intel dual core 2.5 ghz
Motherboard: Asus p5n73am NVIDIA GeForce 7050 / nForce 610i
Harddisk : Western Digital 160 GB Caviar blue
RAM : Kingston 2GB ddr 2 1000 mhz
Video : NVIDIA GeForce 7050
Audio : VIA VT1708B
Cabinet : Zebronics COBRA
Power supply : 450 watts (built in with zebronics cabinet)
Optical drive : Liteon Moserbaer dvd writer

I want to know what is the best upgrade in video ?

Ati or Nvidia

Some conditions that are extremely mandatory

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I need a video card that must be friendly with Linux
---------------------------------------------------------------
I will use mandriva 11/ubuntu 9/suse 11
---------------------------------------------------------------

If possible a video card that accepts my smps ,

else should I go for a extra powered smps than the existing one .

I prefer games and love to use a card that is future ready
( future proof doesn’t exist)Direct X 10.1 And Above

At present I play

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Eurotruck simulator ( directx not opengl, though opengl is good using onboard video)

The sims 3 ( playing now using game booster )

Comand and conquer red alert 3( this machine stammers a lot )
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I plan to play

****************

Hell raiser london

Conan

****************

And Similar Other Games (That May Include Direct X 10/11)

I hope my motherboard maker ASUS does good video cards for ati and nvidia

Give your choice of recommended power supply for/and the

videocard’s ability if it sits with opensource(linux)--------------------------

I prefer 512/1 GB or more ( reason being future readiness )

Important note

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I need the video card that enables all video options set to the maximum in a
17 inch CRT Monitor ( will be replaced by lcd later )

minimum resolution = 1024 * 768
maximum resolution = 1280 * 1024 ( a rare event ) .

THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT IN OPERATING SYSTEM

(IN WINDOWS/ LINUX )

<--- "compiz beryl" 'aero' --->

give the maximum priority for this

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Re: video card for a asus motherboard

I can help you with the system requirements for the game Conan.
The system requirements are 1GB RAM with Intel 3Ghz processor or more better than this. A minimum graphic card of 128MB is a must but a higher one is recommended for better performance eg. NVIDIA GeForce 7950GX2 or even ATI x1900 series. It works fine on Windows XP as well as Vista.
