Ati radeon 3100 overheating

I recently upgrade my graphics card to ati radeon 3100 , but after installing it my computer stopped working properly. When i play high graphic games or open graphics based application my computer hangs. Does anyone know what causes this issue and how to fix it?Any help will be extremely appreciated.

Does the ati radeon 3100 graphic card have just a heatsink without a fan? Did the other video card overheat as well? Use a software to check the temperatures of your cpu and system to see the temperature when it's really working. The graphic card only needs to work hard if you do 3D stuff like in games so otherwise cooling isn't that much of a problem.

Well, you can check the GPU temp with the new ATITool and scan for artifacts as well as checking your temps. ATITool is an overclocking utility designed for ATI and NVIDIA video cards. The poor graphics card really doesnt get much flow around it so it stays hotter than the rest of the computer.

It could be the video card or possibly some software issues. What case are you using? What is the fan(s) configuration -- size, location, number. Does the video card have a fan or just heatsinks ? whichever it has make sure it is clean and free of dust build-up. You check your ati radeon 3100 graphics card temperature from the Motherboard Monitor 5 software.
