Need help for selecting proper video card for linux

I have to order a new video card for my newly owned desktop pc, and i have read somewhere that Nvidia cards can go for out-of-the-box support. So i am looking for 512MB-1GB. I am planning on playing 3-D Games on the Linux side. So can anyone of you help me out in selecting video card that will work properly on linux operating system. Please

Re: Need help for selecting proper video card for linux

There is no problem using a nvidia cards but i personally like the EVGA brand no issue that they often cost a little more, but they are worth it. They are generally new cards, but for much better prices. The cards listed below are the higher end cards which belongs to the GeForce 200 series:
Quote:
GTX 260, GTX 275, GTX 285, G210, GTX 280, GT 220, GTX 295, GTS 250
If you want then you can go for these cards and checkout the performance and will also work properly on linux.

You can play your 3 D games on linux. Just you have to go for a good video card. Some of the video cards which are at much better price i have listed below. All the following video cards belong to the GeForce 9 series:
Quote:
9500 GS, 9400 GT, 9100, 9300, 9500 GT, 9300 GE, 9800 GT, 9300 SE, 9600 GT, 9800 GTX/GTX+, 9800 GX2, 9400, 9300 GS, 9600 GSO, 9600 GSO 512,

Just remember one thing make sure your motherboard has the correct socket available for the video card that you want to install and there is a room for the card to be installed into that socket.
