Monitor comes on then goes blank

Hello,

I have an Acer LCD monitor. This just started the other day, I don't have a screen saver on, I set the monitor to turn off after 20 minutes. When I come back the orange sleep light is on the monitor, I wiggle the mouse and the monitor light goes green and the screen comes on for about a second, then the screen goes blank but the green lights stays on, green. If I wait, nothing happens, I have to turn the monitor off and then back on, then the screen comes on and it works fine.

Any ideas?? monitor? video card? It is weird because if I turn the monitor off and then back on, it will work fine for a long time, and not go blank.

Check out the power options of Windows. If you have assigned that turn of monitor after some minutes then it goes blank. Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel > Performance & Maint > Power options. Set all to no and disable whatever you find here. Then restart your system and try back again.

I do have it seleted to turn the monitor off after 20 minutes. What it is doing is when I go to the computer after the monitor has gone off, the light is orange, then I wiggle the mouse and the light goes green and the desktop comes up for a second and the screen goes blank. But the light on the monitor stays green. Then I have to turn off the montior and turn it back on, then it works fine.

This just started the other day, I hadn't made any settings changes.

Sounds like a video card issue to me, but the way to be sure is to try it with a different monitor if you have one. Have you confirmed that your graphics card is operating properly? In order to get rid of your issue, you just need to check out the below mention links. I would check that before considering messing with the monitor itself. Is there an old monitor you could hook up to test whether the card is sending a good signal to the display?
