Is Intel GMA 4500M good for gaming

I am in the way to buy a new graphics card for my computer. I play a lot of current games like CSS, Call of Duty 4, Crysis, etc. But I don't have huge budget. Considering my requirements and budget I found Intel GMA 4500M from Internet. But I am having a doubt about my games if I would be able to play it on my computer. Can you tell me if Intel GMA 4500M is good for gaming or not?

Yes you can use Intel GMA 4500M. If you want set the power management by going to graphics properties. Click on "Power Management" button. Set the dial to "Power savings disabled". Also try setting the Driver Memory Footprint option to "High". This can even help to increase your graphics performance.

You can play all of those games, but the framerate is another matter of question. This chipset is not recommended for gaming by gamers. Intel GMA 4500M is mainly used for office work, a few movies, some occasional photoshopping etc. You can play some basic games like Condition Zero, flash based games but not high end games not even in minimum settings.

Re: Is Intel GMA 4500M good for gaming

    The above post is wrong:
You can play games with the card, it is not a great card, but you will NOT be relegated to flash-games.

In a review published in May 2008, the GMA X4500 showed a superior game performance to the lowest-end 1-year-older GeForce 8400M graphics card, while losing to the still low-end GeForce 8400M GS with a slower CPU.

    The point being that modern video cards of any ilk are great and can run your games! Unless you are a gamer-freak or trying to play crisis;

Im feeling reassured by the last guy who posted that it is possible to use this video card for gaming. My gaming is x-plane, and microsoft flight sim. these are not considered high performance games. But the frames-per-second gets slow and choppy on a low-end system. December 2009: I bought Dell Inspiron 1525. Decent computer: I was not buying it for gaming. Now Im into the flight sim stuff. BOTTOMLINE: I just bought a Compaq Presario; Its a cheap, low-end computer, but it will do the flight simulation stuff a lot better. my Dell Inspiron has a crappy 360MB video-card. The Intel GMA 4500M is a 1300MB video card. thats a big difference!!!!!! big difference!!! The hardcore tech people will always get into the discussions about "Intel integrated sucks; get a dedicated card." yada yada yada. You need a video-card with some decent memory!!!

you should try low budget cards of XFX like the ATi 1GB HD4650 which is under 3.5K and good for the games you want to play. also there are nvidia cards but they are not worth the price.

    Dear, flightsim68
Memory is the least thing that matters in case of graphics, only noobs talk about memory in case of graphic card.. look into the market and you will even find 1GB cards at Rs. 2500 and 521MB(mind it!) sold at Rs.18000. the real thing is the processor or the chipset of the card. Memory totally isn't useless, frankly i dont see much diff between 512MB and 1GB versions of the same card.

    and....
    Intel integrated really sucks.
you have to be a fanbuy of intel to say that its ok.

That is in Rupess. The amount is mentioned 3500 Rs. That is around 100 $. The cost of this XFX like the ATi 1GB HD4650 comes at 3500 Rs in India. You can visit the official site to get the exact amount for the same. ATI offers outstanding graphics performance at very low prices for the AGP bus configuration.

Re: Is Intel GMA 4500M good for gaming

You will get the PCIe at 3.5K rupees. I guess the AGP should cost around the same, if not lower.

And Birdie is right, ATi/AMD is the best value for money products. Even in case of processor, You will get the top of the line AMD X6 (6core) at $199, for which you will only get an intel's Quad core.

advice for flightsim98, you will find most prices given here in Rupees. 1 dollar = 47.09Rupees

    Enjoy Gaming Guys!!

Re: Is Intel GMA 4500M good for gaming

Bottomline: I made the decision to buy a laptop, and I didnt want to spend money on a high-end laptop. Again, Gaming was NOT my objective when I bought the laptop. BUT: the GMA 4500M has some positives! Whereas I try to do the flight-sim stuff on a GMA 3100, I read a post that said Intel designed the GMA 4500M to be 200% faster than the GMA 3100. if your math is good, you know 200% faster means Three times the speed of the GMA 3100. so thats a plus. trying to do the flight sim stuff on a GMA 3100, I see the lag-time in the frame-rate per second. I see where the texturing flickers in and out at high settings. I think when my compaq presario arrives, I think Im going to see some nice improvement in the GMA 4500!!! I didnt want to listen when people said the video card has to be faster. Now Im waking up to that realization. but seriously, the 1300mb memory of the GMA 4500 wont add to the performance?????? you guys dont think the added memory is a help?????? .....BUT: bottomline, if the unfortunate occurs, that the increased performance is very minimal. well, the $375 american I spent on the compaq is almost the same money I would have spent if I wanted to upgrade my operating system and harddrive on the computer I have now. In stead of making upgrades on one computer, I have the same upgrades on a new computer for almost the same money. two cheap laptops.. But the compaq presario didnt arrive in the mail yet. so Im still expecting nice increase in performance from the x3100 to the 4500m

I've found that you get what you pay for in graphics performance. Pay a little , get a little. So basically you have two cheap laptops, deal with it.You will see a performance increase with the 4500 mobile, but keep your graphics settings on the low side. Increased ram will always help with graphics displays so if you upgrade, that's the best 'bang' for the buck. Just a thought

Re: Is Intel GMA 4500M good for gaming

I'll deal with it, but read the response above by RSAYLORS: "you will not be relegated to "flash" games". and nickomono, you said increased ram helps. The presario, again, did not arrive yet. ill report back if I get increased performance. keep in mind, microsoft flight simulator x, and x-plane 9, came out around 2006. what were the major video cards in 2006 for gaming? and can you really compare the gaming needs of the flight simulation software to some of the high-performance video games??? That was a question, not a statement. I dont play any other computer games. ...I bought last week the add-on software for the manhattan scenery for microsoft flight sim. I see the drag in performance with settings at max. Im looking for increase in settings at max, not at the low side. if I was planning on the low side, I would not have bothered with the compaq presario. ....I reiterate: $375 for the compaq presario. If I upgraded my OS on my Dell from vista to windows 7, that would have cost me $200! so badabing, $175 more and I have a whole new computer to go with my OS upgrade.

Re: Is Intel GMA 4500M good for gaming

The 400MHz clocked version is the 4500M and is used in the GL40 and GS40 chip-sets, called GMA 4500M. Compared to the predecessor GMA X3100, the GMA 4500MHD has two more shaders and a 33 MHz higher core clock speed. Therefore, the chip is faster than the older one, (3DMark06test results). Still, the performance is just the same as entry level dedicated graphics cards and therefore not suited for demanding games. Some older games like Serious Sam, Sniper1,2,3, etc. can be played in low details and low resolutions. I understand the difference in price, $175 more and another computer. Oh yeah, never say those will be the only games you will play

an integrated video card which is equal to entry-level dedicated graphics: sounds like a decent increase in performance to me!! Its like an upgrade from a ford escort to a four taurus, or maybe a lincoln. Im not expecting it to run like a ferarri!!!!!
