HP Pavilion MX70 microphone not working

I reinstalled my Windows XP Professional, initially I was on Windows Vista. This resulted in the deletion of all drivers. I have HP Pavilion MX70 monitor. Since reinstallation, my monitor microphone seems to be dead for no reason. I tried to Google for the correct drivers and got one but the site from where I got was not reputed one. I tried to download and install the driver but my microphone is still useless. I am unable to find the correct drivers to get the microphone working.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Few steps before reinstalling new drivers:

1. Check the Audio settings

Start -> Control panel -> Sound and Audio devices
Go to Audio tab and set the default playback device to your main soundcard. If you can not see it then reinstall the audio device once again.

2. Check if your microphone (pink) and speaker (lime) jacks are really correct and fully inserted!

3. Check audio on Windows base.

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Soundrecorder

Even I had the same problem few months ago. However I resolved this by simply going to Start, then Control Panel and then Sound and Audio Device. I went to Audio, then Sound Recording. In Volume, just confirm if Microphone is Checked.

If you have an Advanced Option, check "Set the master control to full" and boost the Mic Input.

A microphone not working issue can be because of any of the following reason:

1. Third-party software: Make sure that the microphone is not working in Sound Recorder.
2. Incorrect Microphone device setup: Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Multimedia - under the Audio tab, see to it that your recording device is properly set to the soundcard record device.
3. Volume for Microphone is muted or not turned up.
4. Sound drivers are corrupt or bad.
