question 7300GT not being recognized on Dell Optiplex GX280

    Here is the situation:

I recently uncovered a [relatively] old Dell Optiplex GX280. It used to have an AGP 7300GT that I used a while ago (confirmed to be working), so I found that and put it in the computer. Things worked just fine, until I was updating drivers. It would not update because apparently my card was operating in "reduced performance mode," on account of my not plugging in the extra power adapter.

So, I turned everything off and put the cable in, and turned it back on, only to find that my card was not being recognized at all. Under Device Manager (Windows XP, btw), the 7300GT was listed as "This device cannot start (Code 10)." Even when I unplug the extra power and turn it back on, it is still not recognized.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

This device cannot start (Code 10) error is related to device driver support check here on Microsoft . so get latest driver for your card and install that another possibility is upgraded service pack ,there is possibility of conflict if you upgrade service pack newly and your driver is old.

I think the drivers may have not installed properly. There might be some error occured due to which the device is not being recognized. Try to uninstall and reinstall drivers......this might possibly solve your problem.

It's not a power issue obviously. It does't matter whether you provide extra power or not.

The very first thing is that you haven't mention withe which device it gives an this error, you have just mentioned the drivers and adapter, so just confirm that this error should be related to some device which later on belongs to the devices, here I will give on an average information about Adapter.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.

Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed.
Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
