Graphics card does not fit in PCI-E slot

A motherboard with SATA connectors is (a MSI Eclipse) and a graphics card with excess length (in my case a 8800GTX) appear in combination a serious problem: The graphics card does not fit completely into the top PCI-E slot, because the underlying SATA connectors are too high.

Is that all motherboards with SATA connectors and are graphics cards with excess length so, or am I doing something wrong here?

No. There are a wide variety of PCI Express slot sizes. They could be size X1, X4, X8, or X16. Most computers these days have X16 for graphics slots, and then one or two misc. other slots. Check your motherboard manual for what exactly is in your computer (or the specs sheet that came with your computer).
