Re: Recommendation for a graphics card

Well to tell you the truth 256 isn't very good for the top of the line games, I recommend an NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB 256 bit G card. you can check out some on newegg.com. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...on=9800+gt+1gb And they vary from $120-150.

Someone else may have similar question.

Someone else may have a similar question and may find this thread useful, so I see no wrong in responding.

First, you will not save money by choosing a 256 MB card over a 512 MB card. Most cards are now 512 MB these days. Even terrible ones that don't even have a GPU that can benefit from that much memory are now coming with 512. This is because the older memory chips are not even being manufactured anymore.

Second, the performance on the 256 MB will be inferior on higher resolutions as the card will run out of memory for textures and have to reprocess data. You will see a difference between an 8600 GT with 512 and an 8600 GT with 256. 512 will be faster and smoother. Both cards will be the same price though, with the 256 being rarer.
