Crossfire between HD 4850 and 4870 possible

I wonder whether it was possible to make a connection with a cross fire HD 4850 card and a 4870 card or if you need identical models. will there be any gain in performance ?

It is possible yes, The 4850 Crossfire will be faster, but the 1Gb 4870 will enable you to crossfire later on. However I'd recommend the 4850 Crossfire personally, very fast and on par with the GTX 280 (faster in some cases).

Glad to hear you like your 4870, you can crossfire a 4870 and 4850, and you will see substantial gains in most games. Actually Crossfiring a 4870 and a 4850 will severely limit the 4870 so that it will be like Crossfiring 2 4850s. Might as well just sell your 4850 and add another 4870 if you need.

Crossfiring a 4870 and a 4850 is going to bring the 4870 down to function as a 4850 BUT this is still to your advantage as 2 4850's easily beat out 1 4870....and its costing you nothing.
