Problems with radeon hd4870

motherboard is ga ma790x ds4
2 gb corsair ram
amd 6000 dual core
750 watt zalman psu
operating system windows 7

the problem

had left pc on overnight, came out in morning to find no display (on screen message said no signal) could hear video card fan revving. Reset pc and no post again revving video card fan. No power to usb drves etc. Changed memory, no affect, removed video card and installed ati 1050x spare, all good, machine booted and ran fine. Sent card to distributor and they found no fault. Received card back and reinstalled machine booted and ran fine, updated drivers etc and machine ran fine for 3 days, was sitting away from mchine and heard graphic card fan rev into high gear, message on screen was no signal, reset machine and it has ran no worries for 24 hours. Temp on card reported as 63 idle and 79 under load. At times fault occurs everything was at idle.

I guess you have to first check your card with some other machine. If it works in that machine then you might problems with your card driver; and if your card doesnot work with other machine then your card is blown up. If it's in warranty then get it replaced and if not then buy a new one

Its may be because of overheating and all. There can be lots of dust under the Heatsink. Try to remove dust and all. Maybe use High Pressure air can blow out any dust. Good luck
