Windows 7 driver for FX 5500

    Hi,

I have a nVidia GeForce FX 5500 256 MB graphics card and works fine with WinXP SP2.

Recently, I installed the beta version of Windows 7, the graphic card was not detected. When I came to know about the 'Automatic Update' provided by Microsoft which updates the graphics driver for this version of Windows 7, I updated my system and re-booted but could not make it to the Windows 7 desktop screen.
The system displays a blue screen and after which the system re-boots again.

Is anybody else facing the same problem or am I going wrong about something?

Uninstall the video driver you're using now in Control panel > Add or remove programs.

Download and install this driver from nVidia

Since you get automatic restart from BSOD, you may find it difficult to get into normal mode or run longer in the normal mode. So get into the safe mode, rollback the drivers for that card that might have updated by Windows update. If this doesn't helps, try system restore to the date previous to the windows update. If this also doesn't help, then remove the drivers for that card, and install the latest from nVidia. Before that, confirm that those drivers are compatible for Windows 7.

Hey, I forgot to mention that I did everything you guys ask to do. My question is if the drivers that are updated through Automatic Updates really work for others for this model of nVidia?

Yes, I have seen many discussions on this topic where Windows Automatic Updates was the ultimate solution for almost all of them. When Vista was developed, this was the perfect solution, but dont about this for Windows 7. Windows 7 in very new and it doesnt seems the various drivers are available separately for Windows 7. So Automatic Updates will be the last option left.

Yes. I have the same problem. updated driver through windows update, then BSOD. I did rollback driver through safe mode. Looks like I'll have to wait until proper windows 7 drivers arrive.

Hey dude! You know what...I did the auto update again...and the system doesn't load Win7 OS There is really something wrong. Moreover, if you check the nVidia website, they have some up with newer stable versions of the graphics drivers but series 6 and above....
