my advice is wait for the purchase of the new TV, so meanwhile the prices of BD players will get down a bit and maybe even the new models come out.Buy a DVD player momentary with some loss and connect it into RGB crt, and it is so much better than to connect a bd player with the yellow cable.

dont go with that connection bd is advance technology scaling will not support crt so change tv to hdtv or get dvd player.

Mine is the crt hd philips prepared with the resolution up to 1080i, so different from the classical crt; addition to (not out) component also has an HDMI!

    video quality of my tv
    1) HDMI
    2) component
    3) RGB scart
    4) s-video
    5) composite (scart or RGB signal without jack yellow)

so check your Panasonic 36 Wide crt tvs specification for resolution or you can go for BD player
