    GTX 285 or 4870x2 graphic card?

    Hello,
    I am having a monitor of LG L204WT (20 inches) being dropping to replace a monitor I ordered Hyundai W240D v2 which is 24 inches and has a higher resolution.
    Currently I have a 8880GTS 640MB graphics card, while running in 1680 * 1050 (except Crysis ...) but it already shows some limits. With the increase in resolution, I fear that the card does not works pretty any more.
    So I thought about buying a card in February and most recent powerful enough to play in conditions very comfortable.
    I hesitate between a mainly Geforce GTX285 and Radeon 4870x2. Both cards are virtually the same price (at least in the Sapphire 4870x2) and I could not save more, which is especially important in addition to that, it's noise, and consumption. I have a level consumption of 600w Seasonic S12 PSU, I am a bit worried that it is fair for a 4870x2, even if some articles I read tend to say that it is sufficient (I will not overclocker graphic card) and a C2D E6600 processor @ 3.2 ghz (overclocked it therefore). I also thought that the 4870 play is loud, then what about the GTX285? I always had a preference for Nvidia but it does not bother me to take the ITA report perf when the money is there, as is the case with 4870.

    Another problem is, I have a motherboard Asus P5W DH Deluxe, and I thought I read that unfortunately the PCI-Express 2.0 does not overwrite them when it is supposed to be backward compatible, so a priority I could not run both cards anyway. Someone knows more about it? If this is indeed the case, I will have to change the motherboard too, which is not a huge problem in itself, but I have nothing more monitoring of the timeliness of the motherboard for a long time! What motherboard to then? I do not do SLI. I do not want a motherboard too much but I am not low end either.

    Thank you for your answers, I am a bit outdated now, but I look right again on the left to find answers to my questions.

    Indeed, the cards compatible PCI Express 2.0 compatible 1.0 (example: my HD4670 works fine on my PCI-Express 1.0)
    For my part I would be taking a HD4870x2 ...

    I have heard that 4870x2 is the champion against the GTX285 graphic card, but if you buy 2 x GTX285 then it will overtake the 4870x2 graphic card. However, the 4870x2 is faster than the GTX285 and even if you compare the price, 4870x2 is cheaper. For High Resolution Gaming again 4870x2 wins the race. Also you would prolly need a new PSU 750 Watts minimum.

    The 4870x2 is generally faster than the 285 in almost every game except those where crossfire isn't enabled such as Dead Space. The 285 is the fastest single GPU on the market, but the 4870x2 is faster in most applications where crossfire profiles are enabled.

    Re: GTX 285 or 4870x2 graphic card?

    As per this post, I suggested the GTX 285 is a better bang for buck card than the 4870X2. Now I will present my case.

    Pricing
    I used the price search engine staticice to find the cheapest price for both cards for stores with stock.

    GTX 285 = $573.10
    4870X2 = $720

    The 4870X2 costs 25.6% more.

    I then compared the prices of both cards at the infamous MSY.

    GTX 285 = $585
    4870X2 = $729

    The 4870X2 costs 24.6% more.
