"Debut for the month of March, presumably in conjunction with the Cebit exhibition in Hanover, for the new ATI GPU top of the range"
During the last week NVIDIA has submitted its proposed new top-range segment of the video cards, we speak of the solution GeForce GTX 295 GPU architecture to two that we have analyzed in this article. In the coming days, the American producer will also present the evolution of its 55 nanometer solution GeForce GTX 280 model that will take the name of GeForce GTX 285.
Using information reported by the website Hardware-Infos to this address, there are now some details on what should be the technical characteristics of the next generation of ATI video cards for the top-range segment of the desktop market, presumably with the proposed name of ATI Radeon HD 4900.
The architecture will use as a basis for solutions that Radeon HD 4800, increasing the number of stream processors and that increases the clock frequency using the technology at 40 nanometers developed by Taiwanese TSMC. The memory technology will continue to remain that GDDR5, combined with 256bit memory bus width so as not to unduly affect the complexity of the PCB of the video card.
We had already given some details about this new generation of video cards with this news, published in the middle of the month of December. These new ATI cards should go to a place not so much direct competition with the solutions GeForce GTX 295 and other cards from NVIDIA as with future proposals based on the architecture GT212, which could be submitted by NVIDIA in the second quarter 2009.
