9800 GTX or 8800 GTX or ATI HD 3870 x2 video cards

I am about to totally change my config by 2 to 3 weeks, the main choices are already made, but the graphics card is what I am still confused with and I am totally lost.

According to tests the 9800 GTX does not really outperforms 8800 GTX and a difference of about 50 that it is bothered to invest in new generation knowing that the bus and the memory of the 8800 GTX are higher than the 9800 GTX? And for ATI 3870 x2, what are your views?

For the moment I'm on a 19 "in 1280 x 1024 resolution but that should change in a few months also to move on to something bigger, while bearing in mind that I intend to keep this config as long as possible and be quiet a good time.

According to you which card (s) move for maximum performance (and silence if possible) while remaining within a price range of plus or minus $450.

Well, If i were you then I would have gone with 9800 GTX cause it comes cheaply compared to other cards and also outperforms 8800 GTS but slighlty less powerful then the 8800 GTX and also this cards price range is very costly. The 9800 GTX card would also be able to support Games like Far Cry 2 on ultra high settings and Crysis on some High settings.

9800gtx uses G92 and beats 8800gtx in almost all applications

9800gtx got 14k in 3dmark06
8880gtx got 12k in 3dmark06

as of right now, i'd say go with the 9800GTX over the 8800GTX. the 8800 uses the older g80 core, and also, the 9800 also has full support of DVI to HDMI cable converters.
