my GTX280 temps are mid 50 degrees idle, goes to max 80 degrees in games like Crysis etc. I dont know about the temperature for such a cards. Is this temp alright?

Mine idles at 50-51 (ambient 44-45), and that is an EVGA FTW edition (factory overclocked). Under load, I've never seen it above 70 C core readings.
I guess you have quite cool graphic card so don't worry!

Those temps are fine, they're about the same as my 260. Currently at 54oC at the desktop - case temp is 28oC
50idle is OKAY! 79 LOAD IS OKAY!
as long as it dont hit 85+ then its okay!
