Windows Has Blocked Software Because It Can't Verify The Publisher

I have AOL as the IP. Top taskbar>Community>Member Directory. I receive two
boxes/messages.

1. Windows Has Blocked Software Because It Can't Verify The Publisher
Name: SWflash.CAB
Publisher: Unknown Publisher

2. Internet Explorer Script Error
An Error Has Occurred In The Script On This Page

Contacted AOL. Advised system does not show computer on line. Obviously It
was. Described problem. He said to contact Microsoft.

Please advise.

The first error means that the software or file was signed by a Certificate
Authority that the computer did not trust or possibly that it was not signed
at all. Software files can be digitally signed so that the publisher can be
verified if signed by a certificate issued by a trusted CA. If not signed by
a trusted publisher the application is much more likely to be malicious but
certainly not always. There are two options in Internet
Explorer/tools/internet option/advanced - security that set security for
digital signatures which you can change, even if just temporarily, if you
trust the publisher and want to install the application.

The second error means that a script on the webpage did not run as expected
and is not unusual to see and may be resolved by changing security settings
for the web content zone or adding the website to the trusted Web Content
Zone [use tools/internet options/security] if you do trust the website. I
don't [an won't] use AOL so I am not quite sure how this was all generated

I have found that if "allow software to run or be installed even if
signature is invalid" is enabled then in situations like yours you should
have the option to install the software after you acknowledge the warning.
Otherwise if you can examine the certificate and trust it you can go to the
certification path page, select the top CA in the path, select view
certificate, if you trust it go to details page, select copy to file, select
name and path on your computer and save it. After you save it double click
the .cer file you saved and select install to start the certificate import
wizard which will install that certificate into your trusted root CA store
which should keep you from seeing the unknown publisher message. -- Steve
