    Importing Excel Spreadsheet

Guys i have been trying to import 3 column spreadsheet into Microsoft Project but after following the mapping wizard when i click on finish, i get an error message saying "OPERATION FAILED". There is no other information addressing the cause of operation failure. Just to cross check there is nothing wrong with the spreadsheet, i have tried Tasks, Resources, and assignments but i am getting the same error message, any idea what might be wrong???

Which version of Microsoft Project you are using?? Are you using Project 2007 SP-1 or Project 2003 SP-3? If yes, then there might be "legacy file" format issue. This has been a common issue where project gets confused by the excel file format. In order to fix this Go to Tools > Options > Security tab and select the "allow loading
file with legacy or non default file formats." option and you are done. just give it a try and let me know if that helps.

    Re: Importing Excel Spreadsheet

I am a MS Project Professional 2003 hobbyist. It has been my understanding that excel spreadsheets with resource/worker information e.g. hourly rates, overtime rates, etc can be imported into MS Project. Is there a template for this spreadsheet? How can one be created and understood by MS Project? What other details could be included on such a spreadsheet? Much thanks in advance for any guidance.

    Re: Importing Excel Spreadsheet

I will suggest you to setup these kinds of things in Project. You can create a sample of the fields that you might be willing to import. Once you do that, you can export then in to Excel file using Excel file as a template and get your file in the same format. You can import that Excel file back into Project as well.
