| "Operation Failed"
I get this "Operation Failed" message when I try to open an MS Project File. The file was created in the same version I run and several of my colleagues are able to open the file with no trouble. Does anyone know what this message is or why it is occurring? |

What version of Project are you using? What updates are installed? For lack of more details, I suggest you first try running Detect and Repair under the Help menu in Project. If that doesn't help, you might try re-installing Project. John Project MVP |

What version of Project and what Service Pack are you using? It is possible that you automatic updates set for Microsoft Update site for all of the Office products - including Project 2003. If so, then check within Control Panel | Add-Remove Programs. If you have SP2 of Windows XP on the machine, then on the top of the dialog box - checkbox - Show updates. Under Project 2003, check for this article # 948962 - if you have this applied, then you cannot save to HTML within Project or Save As Web page. The workaround is in this article - the registry key setting: 941466 Information about the Project 2003 file formats that are blocked after you install Project 2003 Service Pack 3 http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;941466 or you can update to Service Pack 3 of Project 2003 which provides a User interface method to change the files to be allowed. |

[Julie] Pardon me for bumping in here. I have Project 2003, SP-3 with the security update MS08-018 installed. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948962/en-us I have no difficulty saving as a web page or to HTML. Project 2007 does not have those capabilities, but they still exist in Project 2003. I hope this helps. Julie Project MVP |

| Unable to export to HTML from Project "Operation Failed"
We were able to resolve this by uninstalling patch #948962. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948962 has more info. We could reproduce the problem by testing exporting, then installing the patch, and having exporting fail with this error. We could reproduce the solution for three users who tried exporting and failed, by uninstalling the patch. I'd say it's pretty clear that this patch breaks functionality in Project. As I recall files couldn't be exported to Excel either. |
