Project crash when assigning a resource to a task

If I am trying to allocate resources to tasks in Projects 2007 then the software will crash with an exception error. It looks to me like it happens when displaying the dropdown menu. I have installed Windows XP on my computer. The software will just quit and the event viewer reports the below:

Faulting application winproj.exe, version 12.0.4518.1014, stamp 45428184, faulting module winproj.exe, version 12.0.4518.1014, stamp 45428184, debug? 0, fault address 0x0042d513.

Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Thanks.

Even I am getting the same issue, but mine seems to be related to the fact that I am adding a new resource and not that I am using the drop down. Whenever I try to select a resource from the drop down menu then the application will crash and I get the below report:

I am having similar problems but on a dell running project 2007. SP 2 is installed. When I try to view resources, resource graph or resource usage project crashes. The only message is that project has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Any ideas on a correction to this.
