| File not found error on open and closing project file gives a File Not Found error twice when we open it from PS. We can't determine what is causing this error. Where should we look? Thanks, Walter -- WAC |

| More info! File not found error on open and closing project file
Also, once the file is opened, if I try to record a macro, a File not found error pops up. The specific steps I am taking are Tools, Macro, Macros. Then a Visual Basic Error message box pops up with File Not Found. I dismiss it (clicking OK) and then the list of macros comes up. Gary, As best we can tell, no. We added the Subproject File and Hyperlink columns to a view and none of them reference any other files. There aren't any predecessors or successors in other files either. Any ideas where else we should look? Walter -- WAC "Gary L. | Re: More info! File not found error on open and closing project fi
I have more information on this. I've been researching all over the web and seen some similar things in the Google group. I've narrowed this down further and have more information. I open the project from Project Server which is where it resides. I have made a local file copy of the project too and the following is confirmed when I have either of them open. I open the VB editor and get four identical File not Found warning messages. I click View, Project Explorer to open the PE window. There isn't a top node for this project! There is only ProjectGlobal(Global.MPT) and VBAProject (Global+cached Enterprise). If I open other projects from Project Server they have a third node called VBAProject (project name here). Those projects don't have any project specific VBA in them. If I expand the node I only see the Microsoft Project Objects branch with the This Project (project name here) node below it. So, in the problem project, I decided to create a new macro. From the project, I clicked Tools, Macro, Record new Macro and immediately got a File not Found error message. I click OK and the Record Macro dialog opens. I put in the macro name of "test" (no quotes) and choose to Store macro in "This project". I click OK and get a File not found error. I click Ok and immediately get a message that "test" is an invalid macro name. It doesn't really matter what name I use. I've accepted the default "macro1" name and it still behaves this way! I am currently seeing this same problem with one of my project files. It doesn't seem to matter which computer I try opening up this project plan, as I get the same error message. I have tried saving it off the server as an ..mpp file and I still get the file not found problem. I have saved the file as a .mpd, ran the compact and repair utility (which I don't get an error when I try to open VBA editor in access) and then tried to re-open in project and still get the error. Anyone out there have a solution? -- Sarah "wacNTN" wrote: > I have more information on this. I've been researching all over the web and > seen some similar things in the Google group. I guess no one has any ideas. We'd just export this project and import it from a text file if we didn't have actuals against it and it wasn't 1900 tasks long! I also have this problem with MS Project 2003 std. It seems that it was a very old known problem, that already exists in project 2002. I posted this same question with a different group and I got these suggestions on cleaning up a file that is corrupted. "The only therapy that might work for file corruption is to save as XML and then follow the process outlined here: http://www.projectserverexperts.com/...aryRebuild.htm The step in the link is important because saving to XML bloats the project. If this doesn't work, I recommend rebuilding the file manually." From Gary Chefetz OR "You might try the steps in this document: http://www.sphericalangle.com/downlo...d_projects.pdf "How to troubleshoot damaged projects in Microsoft Project" " From Scott Button " -- Sarah "Bruno GAUTIER" wrote: > I also have this problem with MS Project 2003 std. > It seems that it was a very old known problem, that already exists in > project 2002. > Unfortunately, I don't find any solution except copying all the tasks > in a new project. > > if you have another one, you're welcome. > > Bruno > > > > I guess no one has any ideas. I am curious if your project is also missing its "core" VBA Project like mine. Can you check? See my previous post in this thread. | Re: More info! File not found error on open and closing project fi
Gary, At one point, this project file did have another subproject with it. That project was removed before this was imported to Project Server though. On a second question, I think the problem I am having is related to the missing VBAProject for this project. Will the Binary Rebuild fix that? I hate to go through that if it won't touch this issue. Thanks, Walter -- WAC "Gary L. Chefetz [MVP]" wrote: > Does this project reference another project that no longer exists? > > -- > > > Gary L.
