How to Migrate .mpp files from Project 2003 to Project 2010

I’ve been surfing online when I happened to read a more of shocking article on Technet. It stated, in order to open a Project 2003 in Project 2010, you need the Project 2003 file to Project 2010. It seems we need to download and install some migration tool. It’s otherwise not possible to open any Project 2003 file if you have Project 2010 installed with you. Is this true by the slightest of chance?

That is not a very reliable piece of information, my friend. I am very sure; you need not use any migration utility to open a Project 2003 file in project 2010. Simply open the file with project 2010 and you are done. However, you cannot open a Project 2010 file in project 2003. You can definitely do it the other way round.

You are right to an extent. But let me make it very clear to both of you that Project 2003 and Project 2010 need to have the latest service packs installed in your system. Apart from that the trust center in Project 2010 should be allowed to open legacy formats.

I tried opening it and it perfectly did. I thought of trying it earlier too. But the article just scared the hell out of me. It’s all sorted now. Thanks a ton.
But, ‘Reply 2’, I’m still a bit confused. Did this issue ever exist? What was the article all about?

You are welcome! Yes, there was a small compatibility issue with Project 2010, in its initial days. However, the issues are well-addressed and solved by the concerned people.
